IPSHA Membership

Classes of Membership

There are two classes of membership:
a) Voting Members, and
b) Non-Voting Members.

Voting Members

a) are a Head of an Independent Primary or Middle School; and Honorary
Federal Life Members,
b) satisfy any additional requirements for Voting Membership as
prescribed by the Board and set out in the By-laws, and
c) have been admitted as Voting Members in accordance with this
Constitution.

A voting member’s school will:

  • have a majority of pupils in age from four to fourteen years; and
  • be a fully independent school.
  • In situations where a school’s enrolment in the age group 4 – 14 is so structured
    as to create one or more schools, all of which have Heads of equal status and feed
    into the one senior school, then all such Heads are eligible for membership
    whether their schools share the same campus or are at a different campus.
Where there is ambiguity regarding the eligibility of an application in regard to a
particular structure or role in a school or sub-school, clarification will be sought by
the Board.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Membership of IPSHA is by invitation, and it is expected that the prospective member is:
  • supported financially by his or her school with regards to membership, meetings and PD costs;
  • able to attend Branch meetings and conferences regularly;
  • supports the goals and objectives of the Association.

In situations where a school’s enrolment in the age group 4 – 14 is so structured as to create one or more schools, all of which have Heads of equal status, then all such Heads are eligible for membership.

Non-Voting Members 

a) are not eligible to be Voting Members,
b) who satisfy any additional requirements for being Non-Voting
Members as prescribed by the Board and set out in the By-laws, and
c) have been admitted as Non-Voting Members in accordance with the IPSHA
Constitution.

Categories of Non-Voting Members

IPSHA Associate

State Branches may nominate former IPSHA voting members of not less than five years standing who are resident in their State for the category of IPSHA Associate.

To be eligible to be an IPSHA Associate, a person must be:

  • a former Member – no longer in a Head of Primary role;
  • and a Member for not less than 5 years.
  • In particularly deserving cases, where the criteria in rule (ii) is not met, nominations can be submitted to the State President for consideration by the State Branch Committee.

IPSHA Associates will: 

  • pay an annual subscription fee which will be a percentage, determined
  • from time to time by the Board, of the fee for a Member;
  • be entitled to receive digital copies of IPSHA’s e-newsletters and e-magazines;
  • be invited to attend meetings and conferences at their own expense;
  • be ineligible to vote or speak at General Meetings and other National or Branch meetings; and
  • be ineligible to hold office as a Director and any other office at Federal or Branch level.

Overseas Membership

Head of Primary Schools in countries outside Australia may apply to be an IPSHA Associate – Overseas Member.

 

Honorary Membership

There are two categories of Honorary Life Fellows – Honorary State Life Fellows and Honorary Federal Life Fellows, with only Honorary Federal Life Fellows being transferable from State to State. The process to nominate an Honorary Membership is outlined in the IPSHA By-Laws.

 

Overseas Membership

Head of Primary Schools in countries outside Australia may apply to be an IPSHA Associate – Overseas Member.

 

Honorary Membership

There are two categories of Honorary Life Fellows – Honorary State Life Fellows and Honorary Federal Life Fellows, with only Honorary Federal Life Fellows being transferable from State to State. The process to nominate an Honorary Membership is outlined in the IPSHA By-Laws.

Honorary Federal Life Membership

This is IPSHA’s highest honour. It is a category to which a former Member of not less than ten years standing may be recognised as an Honorary Federal Life Fellow on giving written indication to their State Branch of their intention to retire in the near future and the timing thereof, in recognition of their outstanding service to IPSHA through exceptional and sustained contribution given as a Director and within their State Branch.

 

Honorary State Life Membership

State Branches may nominate a former Member of not less than ten years standing who is or has been resident in their state and who has made an outstanding and sustained contribution to a State Branch for recognition as an Honorary State Life Fellow.
